About the session

In the Internet of Things, it is easy to think in terms of the devices that will be connected together, but to get any benefit requires coordinating change at many levels and standardising many interfaces and protocols.     William J. McFarland

    Qualcomm Atheros, Vice-President of Technology

    William J. McFarland is currently Vice President of Technology at Qualcomm Atheros, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm. In this role, he leads new initiatives across Qualcomm Atheros' product line, including WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, Ethernet, Power Line Communications, and Passive Optical Networking (PON). Bill also guides standards, regulatory, and technology roadmap planning. Bill joined Atheros in 1999 and became the CTO in 2004. Prior to joining Atheros, Bill spent 14 years at the Hewlett Packard Research Lab working on mixed signal ICs. Bill has published over 30 papers, and holds over 60 patents. Bill holds a BSEE from Stanford University, and a MSEE from the University of California, Berkeley.
